4 Reasons not to be An Atheist in a Christian Family
Have you ever felt the rage when a priest touches your forehead to paint a cross with holy water and your brain is screaming, “It’s fucking tap water, bro… most likely from a plastic tap that’s been unchanged for years!” Why would someone believe that a literal water that has no difference from the one in your toilet sink would be blessed by god (who happened to have created it)? If water was created by god, then why would he bless it again in the first place?
Stuff like these come up in your mind in your everyday living as an Atheist born in a Christian family. Here are some of the unanswered questions I’ve been asking my brother, a Pastor, whenever we get into an argument.
IS BIBLE REAL?
Is The Holy Bible even real?
The content written in the world’s most-sold book is said to have stories that happened during the time when god’s son came to earth to redeem us from sins. Well, if that’s true, then the suffering he had been through for us has gone to waste.
It is said that The Bible has been re-written, edited, and published about 30,000 times since its first edition. Information has been added and removed more than 30k times, and we are expected to trust what the book says is 100% the truth.
The Bible (or a Religion) is the smartest way to make people follow something for no reason. For example, let me take some of the rules from Moses’s Ten Commandments into account:
Thou shalt not have Strange Gods before Me
The Bible says that I cannot decide which god to follow and which god to resent. Basically, you have no free will, where I can decide what to believe and blindly accept what the gods of Christianity tell me.
Thou shalt not Make unto thee any Graven Image
It means that no picture, painting, or sculpture is to be worshiped as a god. See, every church and chapels around the world is built around sculptures of Jesus, Mary, and the angels. That is not to be done, it seems. Our guys forgot to read the tablet.
Thou shall not take the Name of the Lord thy God in Vain
Calling god “names” and using his name without any proper purpose is prohibited. Like when we say “Oh my god!” every time we have an orgasm. Well, now you know that’s a sin. Instead, we can verses like “Oh my Satan!” and “Oh my Goat!” Or literally anything else other than ‘God’
Thou shalt not Commit Adultery
You absolutely should not have sex before marriage. You can have intercourse after you tie that three knots around her neck, sign the records, get holy water sprinkled, and wait until the priest says, “You may kiss the bride.” So, just like the Cardinals who don’t let the altar boys blow them behind the holy chapel, keep them in your pants until marriage.
WHO IS JESUS?
Was Jesus a con man or really God’s son?
I’ve been wondering whether Jesus was just a con man going around making people believe that he was the god’s son and 12 idiots decided to start a support group. Some people might have been unaware and naive back then, so they believed him and others ignored his preachings.
If this happened in the present, we would have gifted Jesus with PTSD. Maybe we would support him if he did some magic to raise a high school student named Lawrence from the dead. If that doesn’t happen during Saturday Night Live, tweeting about the guy is the best we can do.
The Question
It raises the question, of whether the story around him was altered by its writers as a joke, and people who read it after that decided to create a religion around this. This is a possibility. Another possibility is that the entire thing did not happen and a very intelligent writer crafted this narrative under a bright morning sky to make a living. Just like I do.
The truth… we never know.
HEAVEN AND HELL
Good people go to heaven, a magical place that is imagined to have clouds for a floor, stars for the sky, angels to assist, and people you love around (just not the ones who sinned, so none), and literally, get anything you want at any time. So, if you’re a policeman from NYC, free bagels forever.
Dante’s Nine Circles of Hell: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, Treachery. These are considered the most fearful sins if you hate to be in the red-hot town called Hell. It is reserved only for people who decide to cause harm and not worry about the sins they commit on Earth.
The Subjective Reality
Heaven was created to make you believe that doing good has a purpose and Hell was made to force you to worry about the consequence the sins have on your soul. Of course, nobody wants to be inside a flaming hot soup. They’d rather be in a place where he can eat Aglio e Olio pasta every single day.
So, what the Bible has created forces people from doing what they feel (for example, murder) in order to avoid the bad place. Why don’t they let the people decide what’s right for them and what’s not? Hurting people has consequences, but if people are willing to face that consequences and feel that is right, then why don’t we let them decide. Not that I’m promoting hurt, just that it’s not fair to make people do good things using wrong values.
JUDGEMENT DAY
Christians believe that one day, everything will end and all the humans that ever lived on Earth will be gathered in one place and judged by god, regardless of their religions and the things they’ve done. If you’ve stolen your friend’s boyfriend, you’re going to hell. If you did not take care of your mother and father, you may go to hell. If you helped an old lady carry her basket up the hill, you will receive a ticket to heaven
The Fear
This gives true Christians the fear of being judged, not by the people, not by their own friends, but by the almighty himself. That is scary, right? Imagine standing in front of everyone while he replays the day you touched yourself to the picture of your 23-year-old mother. That’s more embarrassing than scary.
Conclusion
Why should people be judged by god? He is the one who gave us free will. He is the one who gave us the freedom to do whatever we want. If what Elon Musk said is true, then our life is a computer simulation performed by God assisted by a few angels.
You can live your life worry-free, taking all the rules and values given by Christianity (or any other Religion) to the grave. Do whatever you think is right. Do whatever makes you happy and live a life you won’t regret on your death bed.
